To conduct guided tours for visitors to the Museum

Candidates (students/ retired persons / others) having a natural inclination for heritage, history and culture and willing to be associated with the museum activities for a few hours every week on a purely voluntary basis may send in their applications with a bio-data by E-mail to voluntaryguidevmh@gmail.com by 31 May 2017.

A token payment of Rs. 200/- may be considered for each guided session for meeting incidental expenses, subject to approval of the  authority.

Short-listed candidates will be called for an interview and finally selected candidates will go through a short orientation programme before starting their assignment as Voluntary Guides.

Duties and Responsibilities :

  1. The relationship between volunteers and the Victoria Memorial does not create any legally binding contract or a relationship of employment between the Trustees of the Victoria Memorial and the volunteers. The Victoria Memorial will accept the volunteers on the understanding that their services are received at its sole discretion, and that a volunteer’s relationship with the Victoria Memorial may be terminated by either side at any time without notice and for whatever reason (s).
  2. All the volunteers will be required to undergo security clearance before they are formally accepted as Victoria Memorial Hall Volunteers.
  3. Volunteers will have to undergo an induction training appropriate to their volunteer role. This will include a summary of their functional role as volunteers and related matter.
  4.  Volunteers will not have the authority- (i) to represent themselves as spokespersons for the Victoria Memorial, (ii) to make contracts for the Museum or to make any other commitment on its behalf. Volunteers will not have any authority to make any statement to the Media regarding any activities of the Memorial.
  5. The Volunteers in course of their service as Guides should uphold the name of the Victoria Memorial and also maintain the confidentiality of all confidential information.
  6. Separate panels of Voluntary Guides may be formed. Such empanelled Voluntary Guides may be assigned duties by rotation. There will be separate panels for Bengali, English and Hindi speaking persons. The onus for finding a replacement in case of any emergency should rest with the respective Voluntary Guides.
