'The Holocaust' by Shri Somnath Hore - the eminent master sculptor of modern India.

Shri Hore was emotionally touched by the Bengal Famine (1943) and horror of wars, particularly the second World War, its aftermath and the death of so many innocent men, women, children and animals. The above sculpture was then conceived and its final shape was given in 1998 in remembrance of the Nuclear Holocaust.

Victoria Memorial acquired the masterpiece from the artist and put it on display for the public from 6th August 2005 in remembrance of the 'Hiroshima Day'.

The acquisition was possible due to personal interest of Shri Gopalkrishna Gandhi, Hon'ble Governor of West Bengal and Hon'ble Chief Minister, Shri Buddhadev Bhattacharjee.
